The importance of volunteering in your community

There are some people who believe that the point of volunteering is to gain a feeling of accomplishment and purpose, and while it does in fact make you feel good, volunteering in your community impacts much more than your emotions.

Volunteers deliver critical services. Whether you are a volunteer firefighter, deliver necessities to the homeless or answer phones at a domestic violence or sexual assault center, you greatly impact the overall well-being of community members.

Volunteers educate. Teachers, tutors, mentors, coaches and counselors invest their time, talent and expertise to educate the community and ensure that we can all look forward to a brighter future.

Volunteers beautify. Volunteers help keep our community clean and beautiful. From picking up litter from the side of the road and cleaning the riverbank, to enriching parks and green spaces, volunteers make your community one you can be proud of.

Volunteers provide essential resources. Volunteers give blood, provide food and shelter to the homeless, or to those affected by disasters, donate time and money to organizations supporting medical research, stock food banks and so much more.

This week look into ways in which you can impact your community through volunteering and learn what Good Dog has done to help make a difference in our community.
